Recently, I’ve had several different experiences with people of varying belief systems, some who are very angry about what other people believe. Particularly religions.
It’s caused me to think A LOT. I have considered myself to be a religious person for most of my life. Recently, I’ve grappled with this part of myself, really questioning whether or not my religion, its beliefs, and its doctrines are serving me.
When I say that, I mean: do I really believe everything I’ve been raised to believe? And if so, does believing each idea and doctrine make me show up the way I want to in the world? I’m not referring to whether or not the religion is offering me anything of value.
But today, I’m really wanting to share more of an idea with you.
You get to choose and decide what you believe.
You don’t need anyone to dictate it to you, even if you belong to a religion that emphasizes authority.
It’s in your power to take every single thing that authority figure says and decide for yourself if you believe it or not. It’s an option to pick and choose. You always have the choice.
Take your freaking power back.
Not out of anger or defiance, just out of ownership. You are the only one who can ultimately decide for you what you’re going to believe.
Other people don’t have to agree with you.
If other people believe something that is in opposition to your beliefs, you don’t have any control over that. You can waste a lot of energy and time and breath trying to change other people’s beliefs. It doesn’t matter if you think they should change; the reality is that they are not changing. You’ll just end up frustrated if your goal is to change other people’s minds.
Show up how you want to show up, and stand up for what you want to see in the world. But don’t give your power over to anyone else when it comes to your beliefs. That is 100% your responsibility, and that is great news!!
It means that you can feel empowered. It’s so much better to choose your beliefs, rather than just go along blindly or unconsciously with what you were always taught growing up.
This doesn’t mean that you’re questioning with the intent to disprove all your cherished beliefs. You might end up right back where you started, believing the same things, but this time on purpose.
The process might also cause you to question beliefs that have been holding you back and realize that you don’t have to be held back by them anymore. It’s SO worth it.
It’s totally possible to live true to what you choose to believe, and to let go of old beliefs that you no longer want to choose.
Tomorrow marks the release date of a free course I’ve created for you called “Mindset Reset”. It’s all about how to take a look at your thinking, find what’s causing you pain/frustration or keeping you stuck, and choosing and practicing new thoughts.
When you change your thoughts, you can change your life. Seriously.
Take this free course. I haven’t held anything back in it. I’ve given you everything that I’ve learned over the last year and a half about changing mindsets. If you apply the stuff in the course, you’ll start to feel more peace in your life, and, over time, you’ll start to see that your actions will line up more with your beliefs, because you’ll be intentional about each and every belief you choose.
So sign up below! And never forget that you are the owner, author, and chooser of your own life.
